My daughters car seems to be overheating it does have a known water problem however as to what the problem is i am hoping someone will be able to tell me The water pump was replaced before we bought it however it still seems that the water is not getting all around the engine as the bottom radiator hose and another hose seem empty although all the pipes do get hot . I have flushed the system but i cant seem to refill it fully there is nothing wrong with the colour of the oil as someone did suggest this would show a head gasket fault i really am not sure what else i can try i have heard you can get airlocks in the water system however there are no bleeder holes on any of the hoses so i don't know how to check this any advice will be appreciated

Hi. it wouldn't be the colour of the oil but the colour of the water, have a look were you put the water to see if it is a creamy colour, if it is your head is cracked or the gasket has gone, you can have a presure test done. OR when you are filling it up with water there should be a bleed screw, loosen that till the water comes through while the engine is running,or take off the bottom hose.. it can take ages squeeze the pipes & hoses to help circulate the water.also slight revs can help the water to go round & unblock any air!.. I've even kept a garden hose pipe on were you put the water till I've seen water come out of the bleed screw hole or bottom pipe..
or just look for a leak..
. good luck!

I would suggest that the thermostat isn't opening. The water is circulating around the water jacket and not through the radiator, which is exactly what happens whilst the engine is below temp and the thermostat is closed.

You should remove the thermostat and run the engine without it and see if the bottom hose gets hot. Don't drive the car just let it stand at idle.

If the bottom hose gets hot then whip a new thermostat in.

Job done!!

Another check is to dangle the thermostat on a piece of string into a jug of boiling water and see if it opens. If not then......whip a new thermostat in!!!!!

Job done........again!!!

Try loosening the empty hoses to let the air out.

my money is on head gasket, these are prone to this fault and if you have it done it wont last because the heads warp and the block cracks, also the have wet liners on the bores so if they move its more trouble, sorry for the bad news,, sell it,,
