have you ever found a person wich claims to be openminded but whenever u say something different to their own opinion ...she/he already saying you are weird , or if mention the word god , they tell you to light up!!! or if someone from a different race aproach them they feel harrased?? common what is your daNM problem .. is all about having an orgy with 10 strangers their idea of open-mindness? what do you think?

The person you describe has little self-worth, personal power, and control over his environment. This type of individual can only derive his self worth through invalidating others.

A person like this most likely did not get the attention he needed from his family structure so is now doing to others what was done to him. The scenario will also play out through rejecting other races to make him feel more important. His attitude toward other race was most likely learned from his family or some person or group he felt some acceptance.

By the way...how in the hell did this question get turned into a political commentary?

I am not a liberal or conservative. Just stay out of my life and let me decide what is best for me. Good explanation of a liberal Nicholas J. Now I am waiting for a good intelligent explanation for a conservative.

Remember this country was founded on the idea of keeping everyone free to live their life as they see fit. The arguments are still generated through people judging other people for differing point of views. Common sense will tell you we are all at risk as long as one group of people are aloud to push their agenda on others. Keeping life healthy and free for all should be our only concern.

Anyways....Sure people say that sort of thing as a conversational device. It dissarms the person they are about to engage in verbal conflict with to a small degree. It is also presumably the moral high ground. It's not unlike apologizing or asking for understanding right before saying something offensive.
We use such methods to convey, convince and persuade without even thinking about it. And by "we" I mean humans.



I wouldn't have thought to make this into a political arguement, but since the first poster let the cat out - lets do it....

A number of liberal thinkers are able to entertain multiple points of view and see the merit in all of them. Liberal thinkers that I have met believe that two seemingly contradictory concepts can exist simutaneously. Different strokes for different folks mentality.

As long as your opinion does not attempt to dictate how I should live my own life - I am accepting of it.
This is where the divide occurs between between classic liberal and classic conservative. The classic conservative attempts to legislate their own morales upon the population at threat of imprisonment.

When faced with the question of legitimizing caging a human being for a benign offense which only directly affects themselves they typically shrug and say, if you don't do such and such - you won't have to worry.
This is maddening to the liberal thinker who desperately wants all types of lifestyles to be allowed to flourish without fear of persecution, alienation, judegement or persecution.
Hence the stereotype that liberals are more open-minded.
