Medicaid will not reimburse you, it can go back as far as three months so tell the doctors office that your medicaid is pending and most offices will file it and wait so you won't have to pay up front. The most important thing is to go, somehow. There are free clinics and there are some programs that can help if you look around, some states have a cheap kind of insurance that you pay a small monthly rate. The WIC office or Public Health Nurses can help you and you don't have to be single and without work to get help. Just keep trying (my husband used to call it chasing the food stamp because it took so much work to get the help). We both lost our jobs just a couple of weeks before our oldest son was born and it was several months before we got everything back together, keep at it.

I just got medicaid because I was recently laid off and cannot afford the COBRA insurance. When I got approved, I got a phone call from a Mom Care agent and she told me that anything from the last 3 months I think I could bring into DCF and they will reimburse me or if it is an unpaid bill they will pay it.
Also, I have a friend who I used to work with that was also trying to get medicaid and she was "told" she was not approved so she started paying in cash and a week later she was approved!! NOW medicaid is reimbursing her for what she did pay out of pocket for this pregnancy.
This is in the state of florida, if you are in a different state, it may be different, I am not sure. This is a hard time to not have the insurance or money. Good luck and I hope everything turns out fine!
(and to christopher, you do not need to be single and you do not need to be jobless. you have to make under a certain amount if it is only one person, and under a different amount if it is 2 people. do RESEARCH before you answer something you know nothing about. ) :)

These are questions that you need to ask your caseworker, as each state have different criteria for its clients. Myself, I would continue seeing a doctor, and it would be best to see one that is approved by your state's Medicaid program, just in case there might be a way you could get reimbursed for past doctor's visits. Also, there are free clinics, in many locations, that offer services on a sliding pay scale, based on your income. Many of them have very good doctors. I sell Avon, so I understand about how commission works, and that you can't depend on it remaining the same from month to month. Congrats & hope you have a healthy baby. <*)))><

I'm on Medicaid. They will cover 3 months prior to the month you were accepted (example: accepted in July, they cover pregnancy related bills for June, May and April). DO NOT pay the bills. If you pay them, they will not reimburse you. Once you are accepted, call the Customer Service phone number on the bill and give them your new insurance information.
Go to a doctor that accepts Medicaid if you want them to cover 3 months prior to acceptance. If you don't, you will have to switch doctors once you are accepted into the program.
Good Luck!

if you can afford to pay cash for your doc visits and tests I am curious as to why you are even trying to get on Medicaid, isn;t that for people who cannot afford it? I am not trying to be a b***h about it, I am just wondering of I misread your question or am missing something that is obvious to everyone else?
EDIT: thank you for adding that, I would definitely get a doctor that accepts Medicaid so that when you do get approved you don;t have to switch doctors.

hi. if you are in the u.s. you should check into your county health department. the services there may not be free based on your income, but they work with you on paying. you do not have to pay when you go in. i believe that medicaid will go off of your husbands earnings for the year, so you still may not qualify.

does your state have a mid-income program. for california there is a.i.m. medi-cal is the equivilant for medicaid and i didn't qualify. i was told about aim. its for pregnant woman who fall above the poverty line. and all i end up having to pay is a one time fee of 1.5% of my annual household income. you should look into it if your state has something similar.
and atleast for medi-cal they will go back 1 or 3 months for maternity related stuff. so i would assume it would be the same for medicaid.
