Yes, I realize having children life altering and a big deal to whomever has the child. I'm always happy for new parents. However, probably 70% of the population has children. I'm kind of sick of practically every person I know acting like they are the first parents in the entire history of the world. Then again, I'm one of 8 children. I realize I might be taking family for granted.

Kickinitup, you could not be more off base about me, no offense. I have a great appreciation for family. But after getting excited about the births of first few of my 16 neices and nephews, I got a little jaded about the whole process.

I'm sure parenthood is an experience in it's own right; but i do understand what you mean. Non-parents are simply expected to understand that "everything about having kids" is such a joy and wonder. It is in all rights a secret society, one that is fairly easy to join. I think the true elites would be those who can respect parents and not have children.

Well, there you go..your last statement says it all. Have you ever asked what then is the purpose of man on this plain of existence if it is not to have children and better the society as a whole. Acting as if they are the first parents of the entire world is funny, but certainly to them it is a fact.....after all they are parents for the first time.

I think that being from a large family sometimes does not give the best seat in the house to apprec iate that which is called family and brothers and sisters. However, .....I do wish that more people had bigger families for the sake of society.

I am a parent and I had one other co-worker with a child and she had to explain everything she did with he son in great detail as if she was going to be constantly judged and she knew she was the best parent in the world.

Drove me a bit nuts.

Hope I don't do that.

But being a parent is an elite society we even have a secret handshake.

One answer is that it makes them feel good. There is another tho that is more obscure and requires more thought and verification. ^Birds of a feather flock together ^ What happens is that they start to have things in common with other parents. It is natural. By things I mean to include their very own thoughts and desires. Suddenly McD. is where they go for coffee with friends even tho they wouldn`t have dreamed of it before. They start thinking of moving from their appartment to a house in suburbia maybe where they will meet neighbours in a similar life situation, etc. It`s not that they have suddenly consciously abandonned their old friends on an emotional level, it`s only practical and inevitable. Focus on what you want and you`ll get it. Enjoy! Focus on what you don`t want and you`ll get it even more. There is no other possibility.

The best way to figure this out is to go and have a child then come back here and let us know and I'm not being rude at least that is not the intention.

because they are overwhelmed and revert to their childhood shelfishness of toddler years its mine-me-me-me to better understand their children and to feel that their decision to have kids is not good only for them but for you and the rest of the earth!!!
