The First Amendment guarantees freedom of speech, yet we have seen and heard in the media from various conservatives that voicing any dissent with the President is undermining the troops and his grand plan to fight terrorism. The default argument seems an attempt to garner an emotional response rather than a thoughtful one. Stating that having a government which is less restrictive in censoring than any other country is a disingenuous, if not an outright fatuous comment that falls far short of a compliment, and is disrespectful of our Founding Fathers' intent. America is suppose to be a leader in the best of humanity, not just slightly ahead of the pack. Anyone who advocates for an uncritical analysis of their government denies the inevitable consequence: a return to despotism or dictatorship.
