Its kinda like a trend, emo stands for emotional or emotive, an emo hair stlye is like that of Jared Leto fom "30 Seconds to Mars" and an Emo band is like "Silverstein". Look up the music and look at the band members to know what emo looks like.

Emo stands for Emotive or Emotion.. it is a style such as Punk, Goth.. ect. It is also Genre of Music, it is when music is very sad and depressing.. have a lot of whiney-ness to it. Emo's usually one step below goth, sometime emo people are very depress about very small obstacles that come into their lives.. some emo's cut themselves. Stereotypically anyways..

Emos are mainly teens. They are always depressed, sometimes cut themselves. Emos wear tight jeans on males and females alike, long bangs often brushed to one side of the face, dyed black hair, tight t-shirts, studded belts, belt buckles, black shoes often old and beaten up, and thick, black-rimmed glasses.
And the main thing - all the emos hate me :(
