To translate what Dr. J said (because I'm assuming you believe you don't need any guidance from parents or teachers) there are all kinds of people who didn't listen to parents or teachers when they were young and many of them are in prison now. A smart person realizes that he knows a lot, but a truly wise person realizes that he knows a lot less than he thinks he does.

Do we require? Do we benefit from? I'll give my opinion from the abstract view, not knowing your personal statistics or your frame of reference.
On balance, i.e. considering everything, good and bad, and everything in between, our parents, if they are moderately mentally healthy, provide guidance of a different nature according to the age that we are at the time.
From the beginning, the guidance keeps us alive and from being run over in the streets. Later, as we enter school, educated teachers used educational methodologies to enable us to learn. Parents have longitudinal experience by their many years of trial and error, and hopefully they are kind to us in their counsel, good or not so good. If we had neither teachers or parents for guidance, we, most assuredly, would be going down many, many endless dangerous dead-ends and our development would be arrested. When we find ourselves in the rapids of life, it is helpful to have guides. Without them, we would have been in the rapids most of our lives.

Yes you should. It helps to get input from parents especially when the student is having trouble, there may be problems at home. I always borrow from teachers and ask when I need help.

we all need guidance from somone to help us make better decisions in our life. usually it comes from someone who has life experiences and someone we spend alot of time with...like parents and teachers. it may not always be the right advice, but it might be enough to help us choose the right choices.

Those who do not have access to adequate parental or educator input while young fill our penal institutions today.

You do not REQUIRE it. But you are wise to seek it and even wiser to follow it.
