I enjoy my work for the most part because it gives me a sense of deep personal satisfaction and purpose. I am an adult education instructor and a office administrator for a church. Both of these jobs require time and attention be given to the mundane tasks of paperwork and politics, but when I am teaching my true passion for people and my genuine desire to see the light of knowledge illuminate their faces brings me great joy. I don't get paid very much money for either position and I am skilled so I could do jobs that pay a whole lot more, but when an adult says I couldn't pass the math placement test to go to nursing school until I took your class, I want to cry tears of joy. I know I just gave someone more hope for a better life. So it is always the people you are surrounded by, the quality of the work you do and at the end of the day if you go home feeling like you've made a difference. In my job at the church occassionally between scheduling events and appointment someone will call because they need diapers, or they are desperate for prayer and confuse the office number with the 24 hour prayer line, or they are on the verge of suicide. I can help. The job is not always challenging so I create challenges. So it's a combination of all.

I work for a small, family-owned (not mine) company. Personally, I don't like the "work" I do, but I do like my co-workers and the freedom to dress how I want and surf the net on my down time. I used to work in a "cube farm" for a major insurance carrier and it was very tightly regulated and tense, I hated it, but made more $. I think the people you work with and the atmosphere make ALL the difference, sometimes the money isn't worth the stress and hassle.

When I went out to work, it was pretty much for the money. Now I'm working for myself in property speculation and development it's for the fun as well as the money. It just doesn't feel like work at all really.
