Follow these tips in order:

1) STAY WARM. Though cold does not directly cause sickness, it temporarily weakens your immune system and makes you more susceptible to germs. Think about it: its so cold in the winter that most germs die. However, w e all get cold in the winter rather than the summer, even though there are more germs in the summer than the winter. This is because of our weaker immune systems. Staying warm helps to reduce this risk of making your illness worse.

2) DRINK LOTS OF HOT BEVERAGES. Drink only warm water, and drink lots of soup and herbal teas. This will directly warm your body and give it more energy to fight infections and germs. Chicken soup brewed with lots of ginger and black pepper (strain out ginger and black pepper before ingestion) works best.

3) KEEP AWAY FROM OTHER PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY OTHER SICK ONE'S. Everyone has their own characteristic germs, and since your immune system is so weak when you are sick, it is very possible that other people's germs can affect you in a more amplified way and make you even more sick. Especially germs from sick people can make you worse. So try to avoid people in general.

4) DO NOT TAKE ANY MEDICINE UNTIL AT LEAST 5 DAYS AFTER THE ONSET OF THE COLD. Medicine suppresses and weakens your imune system. It might make you temporarily better, but since it works in lieu of the immune system, your immune system does not get enoug exercise and therefore weakens. Also, since your immune system is weak and the antibodies for the germ are not present in your bloodstream, you are more susceptible to catching the same virus again after you are better. Five days is usually enough to give your system some exercise. After that, I reccomend Alka Seltzer cold and cough: very helpful, and does not make you drowsy.

5) PLENTY OF REST .Your immune system is working hard to rid your body of infection, so don't overwork other parts of your body so that you don't have enough energy left for your immune system. Sleep lots.

6) IF NEEDED, SEE A DOCTOR. An average cold lasts up to one week, with runny/stuffy nose lasting a little longer. However, if you are receiving symptoms other than a runny nose after two weeks after following the previous tips, I strongly suggest visiting your doctor. You might in that case have a more serious disorder.

Follow these tips and you'll be on the road to recovery!!

What can I do to feel better?
There's no cure for a cold or the flu. Antibiotics don't work against viruses. All you can do to feel better is treat your symptoms while your body fights off the virus (see the box below).

Ways to treat your cold/flu symptoms
Stay home and rest, especially while you have a fever.
Stop smoking and avoid secondhand smoke, which can make cold symptoms worse.
Drink plenty of fluids like water, fruit juices and clear soups. Fluids help loosen mucus. Fluids are also important if you have a fever because fever can dry up your body's fluids, which can lead to dehydration.
Don't drink alcohol.
Gargle with warm salt water a few times a day to relieve a sore throat. Throat sprays or lozenges may also help relieve the pain.
Use saline (salt water) nose drops to help loosen mucus and moisten the tender skin in your nose.

If it is just a common cold I suggest Tylenol cold and flu. Also soup and lots of rest help. However you may want to have a doctor check you out if it lasts longer than a few days, better safe than sorry. I thought my son had a simple cold and we used over the counter medicine for about 4 days and he just couldn't get rid of his cough, so I took him to the doctor and he has strep throat. Just make sure you watch your conditions to make sure they do not get worse and if they do not improve see your doctor.

Liquid echinacea and golden seal. It's the worst tasting thing you've ever taken, but it will end your cold quicker.

I am not a health food quack. My GP recommended it and it really works.
