My lemon tree was planted a few years ago from a seed from a store bought lemon, so will it take longer for it to bloom & grow lemons? Planted in Spring 2001, It hasn't bloomed or grown lemons yet.? I have another tree & it hasn't grown as much as the other & it was planted at the same time?

It will probably take at least 7-10 years from when you planted it for it to start bearing. Citrus, even when store bought, 3-4 ft trees, take at least 4-5 years before they bear more than a couple lemons per year. Plants don't always grow at the same rates. Is one in more sun?

1. what state are you in. 2. what variety of lemon is it. 3. what rootstock is the lemon grafted onto. 4. what are the numbers on the fertilizer you have been using. 5. have you been picking the baby lemons off the tree to keep the tree from using up all it's growing energy by producing fruit when the tree is too young? 6. how often do you water it. 7. what kind of soil is it planted in.

Sorry to tell you that your seed planted lemon tree won't do anything. Depending on where you live, there are certain varieties of lemons that will only grow in certain areas. Normally a root-stalk is grown and a lemon graft will be grafted into the root-stalk. Visit a reputable garden center or nursery and if you do buy a citrus tree, plant the "eye" of the root-stalk towards the sunrise.

I think you're out of luck too. It is very unusual for a hybridized fruit seed to be fertile. If you want to grow it for foliage you're OK but if you really want fruit it's almost impossible to do it from a seed from a store-bought lemon.

For a fertile seed it still normally takes about 10 years to mature enough to produce flowers. Yours will probably never get flowers and if it does it will probably not produce a fruit like the one you started with. Hybridizing usually messes seeds up once you have the finished product. It's like if you plant a seed from a Jonathon apple it will probably not produce anything but there's a chance it might produce some kind of crab apple looking thing. You're looking at the same thing, only for lemons.
