You would need to make a statutory declaration or make an affidavit, see a solicitor to prepare one but you may need to go to an notary public (not a solicitor) if the SA authorities require it, most documents for foreign use are notarised. A solicitor can commission your oath aswell, just find the requirements.

Hello, I needed a letter stating that I wasn´t married from America to live in Europe. I had to contact the (American) Embassy to request papers. But that wasn´t enough. I had to get my parents to notarize a document saying that I wasn´t married, and then they had to get another notarization called the Hague Convention Apostille. They had to send the notarized paper to either Washington or the state that they live in to get the HC Apostille (which makes it universal in Europe and other select countries). Anyway, you might have to settle it up with family helping you from over where they are. But it will probably need the apostille. The best of luck and by the way, they make it a lot of work to get married so as not to get a marriage of convenience, but that is none of my business. Take care. Love and Respect.

This is just another way of keeping you out.
They also ask people living here (when they apply for a new SA passport) to prove that they have not become British, otherwise they will not renew your passport.
If you are in SA go/phone or write to the British high commission and ask for a letter stating that you have never married or that they cannot do this.
If you are here in UK ask the home office.
Good luck

Good question. It's easy to prove divorced but I've never considered how to prove never married.

An advice centre will be able to help you, but you probably don't want to face the ridiculous queues. You could try going to a registry office. I don't know if they can help you there, but they will probably be able to direct you to someone who can. You could also try asking at a county court building for the same reason. If you are in SA, ask a friend in the UK to go. If all else fails try the British consulate.

Since a couple could get married anywhere in the world how can you prove you are not married? A license would prove you are married but there is no way to prove the negative.

It may be possible to prove you were not married in a specific country if there is a central registry. In the US there is none. I don't know about the UK.

nassim420 has the right answer...I was going to say it, but he beat me...I had to do the same thing when my wife and I got married in Colombia...I had to get two letters from people who knew me, get them signed and notarized, and then get the apostle on them...

I suggest you go to solicitor for this. You'll have to pay a small sum, but it'll make things legal.
