Actually I think I appreciate them both. Without the comparison how could I gauge either one. I rejoice in the happy times and they are appreciated more because I know the depths of my sorrows.
Does that make sense? I might not have explained it too clearly.

Sorrow and happiness are both neccessary and work best together. We are beings who think relatively; we feel happier if something happens after we're sad; we do not view happiness as an absolute. To be honest, I despise happiness. I can't tell why, but I just don't like it.

Though by nature of the very Atman is to look for lasting Happiness, not sorrow, we learn to take both as Lord's grace.

Sorrow because it automatically brings happiness to you and one more thing without sorrow you won't be able to feel the importance of hapiness and that is why it is important.

Scientists have actually done studies with mice that if they go to a certain object they will stimulate a part of their brain that gives them pleasure, then there is also the path to take for food. The mice will actually die of starvation because they choose pleasure over anything. I would pleasure over anything and I'm convinced it would kill me.
