I am taking prenatal vitamins because my husband and I are TTC, my question is...can prenatals make your period heavier because of the high amount of iron in them (since iron works as a blood thinner)?? Has anyone else experianced heavier periods while taking prenatals? Thanks!

No, I have never heard of that. But you can try to experiment by switching to a vitamin with no iron (they make those) and see if you can tell any difference. If it does, then stay with that until you get pregnant and switch to your regular prenatals.

The vitamins won't help you conceive, but they will make you (and your baby) healthier. It sounds like they've helped your anemia (the iron in them will help that), which is a great bonus! It's only been 2 months, so that's not too long (though it can feel like forever!). I'd keep taking the vitamins, to help your body get ready for pregnancy. And keep taking them while you're pregnant, too! (Anemia won't affect your chances at conception, but it's definitely no fun to have, and the healthier the better is what I always say!)

Hi,

I can't say that I have experienced this but I guess it could affect you in this way.

Talk with your doctor about it.
