Empirical. This would be through experience, being always aware that what we think we know could be wrong. Basically I am talking David Hume here, as brushed up by Bertie Russell.

Deduction, of course. Careful study and research of non biased material will produce facts from which truth can be learned.
To believe something as true, simply because that is what we were taught (induction), is blindness at it's worst.

--Truth never contradicts itself!
--Doctrines, that do not make sense, cannot be reasoned on, & and hit a dead end when you try to use logic are indeed false!
--Why not follow the 5 steps of the "Scientific Method"**-in true science, and actually test about most anything you want to prove true or false ,& see if it is applicable!
--If you believe that the Bible may be really true, you can use that, especially Jesus' teachings, illustration, example. Note its claim(In which I believe)---
(2 Timothy 3:16-17) “16 All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.”
--Things that never have past the test of "scientific method"---
1. Evolution, 2. Astrology 3. False doctrines of religion such as the trinity, hell-fire, immortal soul, etc.

Most truth is relative, from a situational standpoint,to the speaker of the 'truth' and as such cannot be objectively judged. Some truths can be proven by natural means (The sun came up this morning...) and therefore do not require judging.Still others are true under rule of law only,in the case of US law,any event witnessed by more than 500 people is considered as irrefutable fact.

There are times when each come into play in our lives. The trick is determining what truth really is.
Truth for me comes down to:
God said it, I believe it, and that settles it.
