He won't - he never does anything that can't be spun, and that can't be spun as it will offend everyone who was alive and serving his country at the time.

The thing is, we won't forget the bombing of our cities, so we're hardly going to apologise for bombing theirs are we...?

And the sticking point is that these fanatical Germans say it was the Nazis who bombed Britain, not Germans... and therefore they don't have to apologise for attacking Britain ....

It's all one and the same with that French idiot asking us to change the name of Waterloo station because that's where the Eurostar goes to...

good question, thank you!

I'm German and I haven't heard of this, but I can imagine that some neo-Nazis said that. Most Germans know that we are not in the position to ask any other country to say sorry for anything that happened in WW2 as it was Germany that was the aggressor and others only fought to stop it. It is Germany that has to say sorry to many countries.
Personally when I learned about the bombings of German cities as a child I never heard that anyone blamed the Allies for it but everyone blamed Hitler and the Nazis for starting the war and for not ending it before which they could have done at any time by surrendering.
Although the bombings were cruel and many innocent people were killed in them I hesitate to condemn them as totally wrong. It is not sure how much they helped to defeat Nazi Germany but I think that whatever could be done to defeat Nazi Germany had to be done. I am grateful that the Nazi regime was removed so that Germany could become a free and peaceful country. When we remember the bombings like with the ruins of that church in Berlin that was mentioned in a previous answer it is not meant as blaming the Allies but to remind us that there mustn't be war in Europe again.
So if Tony Blair ever said sorry to Germans because of WW2 I guess most Germans would say he is crazy.

I put the idea in the same place I put the idea that the US should pay reparations to African Nations because of Slavery. In the Trash Bin.

Germany was at war with Britain and had bombed it's Cities and occupied it lands on the Channel Islands Have these German's offered the UK an apology for that ? NO!

Are they sorry for all the people that their country was responsible for Killing? NO!

They just want to feel better about themselves because they were on the losing side. If I were Blair I'd tell them to Stuff it.

Tell Parliament to say that if it gets that far.

why they might experience the want to bomb Dresden..which grow to be positioned so some distance to the East? The Allies systematically bombed the German conflict device into ailment and oblivion, a lot an similar way because the Nazis had tried to do at the same time as bombing Britain. The Brits beat the Germans again, so that they failed. were no longer maximum Germans attempting to easily shield Germany from the east and attempting to offer as a lot because the west? who've you been talking to..? the position on earth do you get 'maximum Germans' from.? Even those on the right, like the von Steffenbergs and The Resistance, all knew that at the same time as Hitler ruled the roost, getting out of The conflict grow to be no longer plausible. you're actual about attempting to conquer the Russians again. That grow to be after Germany attacked Russia without putting ahead conflict and basically after signing a peace treaty with them. Too actual they were 'protecting Germany from The east..! They were going to get reamed and they knew they deserved it.! What they did in Russia, they deserved to be impaled. why the RAF and people felt the want to attempt this? what number harmless people were killed in which cities more often than not ? Oh, Please..! were they harmless at the same time as they swept The Nazis into potential in 1933..? Overwhelmingly, through the way. were they harmless at the same time as concentration camps were set up ten minutes faraway from there city centers..? for sure, all of them suggested, 'We did not understand..!' The 9 million German infantrymen, The SS, The Panzer Divisions, The Luftwaffe. All 'harmless.?' actual..! This it is the historic previous Channel, so i'd be satisfied to remind you of a few W.W.11. historic previous. In previous due 1944, comments were given through to regular Eisenhour about his troops coming throughout the time of tens of concentration camps, in East Germany, Poland and jap Europe. He at present ordered his militia photographers and media people to visit all of them and heavily record each and everything on movie and documented. at the same time as requested why, he spoke back. 'someplace down the pike, a S.O.B. is going to go back alongside and deny this ever got here about..!' particular sufficient, Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad does that 3 situations a week now, with that tacky smile on his creepy face. Don't think we should feel sory exactly but in berlin last year I was rather humbled by the extent of reconstruction needed. There's a nice parallel with Coventry where they've left the remains of the old cathedral and built a stunning modern one next to it. They serve to remind us all of what we should never do again (but of course it continues elsewhere). All the Germans we came into contact with were extremely friendly and showed no sign of resentment against the Brits. I do think the allies, especially the Americans (as usual) carried on bombing civilians longer than they needed to. Most of the East German towns were flattened right at the end of the war and it was the population that suffered not the armed forces.

Anybody can say "sorry" to anybody for anything, but it doesn't make any difference. There seem to be a lot of idiots around the world who think that getting someone to say "sorry" marks some kind of achievement. How dumb.

So, the Roman Catholics said "sorry" for the way they treated Galileo five hundred years ago. Big deal. Who does that help?

So, the Japanese said "sorry" for the way they treated prisoners in WWII. Big deal again. And totally dishonest, because the b***ards who actually did it relished every stinking little detail of it.

The people who said "sorry" had NOTHING TO DO with the people who did the wrong things, so how can they say "sorry" for them? It just doesn't make any kind of sense to even ask for so late a "sorry", never mind to actually come out and say it.

And the Germans would owe Britain a far far bigger "sorry" for its V1 and V2 rocket attacks than Britain or America could owe Germany for the bombing.

Just what are you trying to stir up? Bombing of civilian sites during World War II was either criminal or just damn bad shooting. Both sides did it. The USA even bombed Switzerland!
If you want to be really cynical, the RAF gave Germany the opportunity of being the first country in Europe to develop pedestrian zones in the centre of their cites. What's the point of raking over all this?
Who, eventually, is going to apologise to the Iraqi people for the destruction of their cities and infrastructure?

All this saying sorry is ridiculous even for the things that were wrong for the time. Because eg the English attitude to the Irish potato famine is no one's responsibility today.
The demand to apologise for the bombing of Germany is doubly iniquitous because the strain it put on the German economy helped win the war.
Even that vile, smarmy toerag you mentioned will probably not stoop so low as apologising.

Not all Germans are Nazis, you self-important prigs.

Do you really think that German civilians deserved to suffer just because of their dictators actions? I guess it's alright that hundreds of people died during the subway bombing in London too, right? Why ask the Islamic Fundies for an apology? They felt justified enough.

This general angst and hatred towards Germans for an event long passed needs to stop. For a society that deems itself so liberal and loving of people regardless of their natitionalities, this kind of discrimination is a sad double-standard.

It was reported today that they are also trying to get Genocide Denial made a
crime. I can't get my hat on with that one but reference the bombing I'd respond with "Well Adolf what do you reckon about Coventry's chances then
14 November 1940 will you go first ?
