Probably, but not easily. I don't think a shy person ever gets over being shy, but they can change how they react to their own insecurities if you give them tools, and a safe environment to practice using those tools.

I once saw a mother with her (maybe) 8-year-old child at a McDonalds. The kid wanted an extra pack of barbecue sauce (or something similar), but was shy and wanted her mother to get it for her. Instead, the mother told the girl what to say and went with her up to the counter. The girl was nervous, but asked for what she wanted and got it. Afterward the girl was very proud of herself! Experiences like that can really help a shy kid to get over their fears!

Just remember that a shy person can't just "get over it".

Well, my daughter was very shy when she was younger and I got her into some social activities, cheerleading, debate team and she also joined the youth choir at her church. Then she became bossy for a while and I had to put her in check. But she is 16 now and its levelled off, she is a leader, but she stopped being bossy and is well liked and outgoing.

I am not pro but it worked for her.

Well, obviously it can. Plenty of shy children grow into confident, outgoing adults. The real question is how, and which way works best for which child?
