Thomas Parr.
Parr was the oldest man who ever lived, attaining 152 years and 9 months.
Parr was born in 1483, at Winnington, Shropshire. He was a commonplace agricultural labourer who lived on the produce of the land, course bread, cheese, vegetables and ale, and having lived to be eighty years old decided to marry at last. His first wife was Jane Taylor, with whom he had a son and a daughter who sadly died in infancy. We know that the marriage was blighted by Parr’s infidelity, for at the age of 100, he was obliged to perform public penance for adultery, after fathering an illegitimate child by a farm girl, Katherine Milton. Ten years after his wife’s death, Parr married again to Jane Lloyd but there were no children from the marriage.
In 1635, the lord of the estate, Thomas Howard, Earl of Arundel, heard fantastical tales of ‘Old Parr’, and was inspired to ingratiate himself with the king by introducing him to the oldest man alive. The Earl took Parr to London and presented him to Charles I, and to the countless sightseers who turned out to see him. Parr was a public celebrity, meeting more people in London than he had known in his hitherto extensive life. His portrait was painted by an artist of the day and now resides at the National Portrait Gallery.
Town life and the rich diet and the myriad of visitors and the city pollution did not agree with Old Parr, for he soon fell ill and died suddenly. His body was examined by the eminent physician, William Harvey, who could find no apparent cause of death apart from old age. Charles I accorded Parr the privilege of burial in Westminster Abbey. His tombstone reads:
THO: PARR OF YE COUNTY OF SALLOP. BORNE
IN AD: l483. HE LIVED IN YE REIGNES OF TEN
PRINCES VIZ: K.EDW.4. K.ED.5. K.RICH.3.

The longest unambiguously documented lifespan is that of Jeanne Calment of France (1875–1997), who was aged 122 years and 164 days at the time of her death. Jeanne Calment met Vincent Van Gogh when aged 14, and in 1988 this led to her, at age 113, becoming noticed by the media. Subsequent investigation found that her life was documented in the records of her native city of Arles, France beyond reasonable question. More evidence for the Calment case has been produced than for any other supercentenarian case, which makes her case a "gold standard" among the "oldest people" recordholders. This is contrasted with the now-disputed claim of age 120 for the oldest man ever, Shigechiyo Izumi. While recognized by Guinness World Records, even the Japanese authorities have hinted that his age was not certain. This claim was accepted in 1978, but subsequent additional research (as early as 1984) has raised doubt as to whether he was wrongly confused with a brother who died at a young age.
Currently (since January 29, 2007), the oldest verified living person is 114-year-old Yone Minagawa of Fukuoka, Japan, born on January 4, 1893.

Thomas Parr (1483 (reputedly) – 14 November 1635) was an Englishman who was said to have lived for 152 years.[1] He is often referred to simply as Old Parr or Old Tom Parr.
A portrait of Parr hangs at Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery, with an inscription which reads “Thomas Parr died at the age of 152 years 9 months” “The old old very old man or Thos Parr son of John Parr of Winington in the Parish of Alberbury who was borne in the year 1483 in Rayne of King Edward IV being 152 years old in the year 1635”. The portrait was once in the collection of the Leighton family of Loton Park, which is in Parr's home parish of Alberbury.
