Ask your Dr. to recommend a different brand. Are you by chance allergic to shellfish? Sometimes the calcium in the prenatals is derived from shellfish - if you are allergic it could make you sick. Also - always take them with food. Congrats - and good luck!

Yes my doctor said it was perfectly fine I must have asked her at every check up just to be sure. I took flinstones vitimans and I am also taking folic acid because there is not enough folic acid in flinstones. If you have the book what to expect when expecting you can bring that book to the store and find the page of where they show you everything that is in a prenatal vitiman its pretty much everything thats in a flinstones but just a little less. I am still taking flinstones

Girl, I feel your pain! I was sure my prenatals were the devil! I got so sick after taking them. I tried taking them in the morning, taking them at night, taking them with water, taking them with milk, taking them with juice, taking them with a big meal, taking them with different types of food...
I was about ready to give up altogether! The only thing that helped me was splitting them up as much as possible. The directions said to take 3 pills, twice a day. So I took 1 pill 6 times per day with a protein snack and that helped SO MUCH.
Unfortunately then my morning sickness got worse and I couldn't take any at all not even one at a time.
My friends told me that I would make my baby have birth defects if I didn't take my prenatals.
Let me tell you this is NOT true. How do you think the last 30 generations have survived if that's true? None of us would be here. Prenatals are important, and they are very good to take, and I would never advise someone to stop taking them just because they don't feel like it, but there are some circumstances when prenatals HURT more than help.
For instance every time I would take prenatals I'd throw up every meal all day. I lost 30 pounds. NOT taking my prenatals helped me combat severe morning sickness and therefore combat MALNOURISHING my unborn baby. This would be an instance when taking a flintstone vitamin would surely be better than losing all your food because you took full-blown prenatals. A flintstone vitamin is better than NO vitamins and no food.
Good luck, and I hope you feel better.

The best thing to do would be tell your DR that your prenatal vitamins are making you sick....your DR can then let you know what other vitamins to try...
I'm not sure if Flinestone vitamins would have enough folic acid (because they are typically for kids) but check the label...it will tell you exactly how much of each ingredient is in there...I wouldn't start taking them until you get them approved through the DR though.
Good luck!

My OB told me that if I can't handle the prenatals, try to take two flinstone chewables once a day. Taking the vitamins with the biggest meal of the day may help as well. Double check with your OB before making the switch (most offices have a nurse that will answer your questions over the phone.) Good luck!!

Try taking them later in the day - I hated them first thing in the morning.
There are differnt brands of prenatals, and you could take folic acid adn iron seperately if you are getting sick. Do the best you can to get as much vitamin as you can, and yeah yeah ask the doc next time you are there.

I had a horrible time with nausea related to prenatals through my last pregnancy. Don't feel like you have to take them first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach ANY vitamin might make you sick. Take them with your biggest meal of the day and a full glass of whatever beverage you prefer. They are so important!! If this doesn't work talk to your doctor or nurse and see if they have any suggestions... good luck!

My Flintstones with Iron have only 300 mcg. You need AT least 400, my nurse said 800.
Try just taking the folic acid at night before you go to bed. I did that because I was less nauseous at night and I did fine.

Usually it's the iron in prenatals that cause you to be sick. You can buy folic acid supplements, which I usually take when I absolutely can't stand the prenatals. I also tend to take my prenatals at night, so I sleep through most of the nausea.
Good luck!
