Just wondering because I heard an AMerican asking what's a Mars bar today and I couldn't believe they might not have em in the states.

I'm in Ireland by the way.

Don't sandbag me for saying this but I read somewhere that Hershey's bought out Mars and now replaced the bar with The New Snickers Almond Bar. Now if your that into Mars and as I am myself then Snickers Almond has basically the same recipe and same goodness.

Original Mars Bar

Mars bars were sold in the US until a few years ago, now I believe it's been rebranded as a Snicker's Almond bar (which tastes a bit different than the original Mars bar). The Milky Way bar here is also a close similarity, as is the 3 Musketeers (which doesn't contain caramel). During the 80s there was quite a bit of advertising for the Mars bar, but I guess it didn't help because now you can't get one in the US.

American Mars Bar

The Mars Bar was a chocolate bar manufactured by Mars Incorporated. It was introduced in the United States in 1936 and remained on the market there until 2000. It contained plain nougat and almonds topped with caramel and covered with milk chocolate.

A different chocolate bar carrying the Mars Bar name is still marketed in other parts of the world. It is made of chocolate-malt nougat topped with a layer of caramel and covered with milk chocolate. It is very similar to the Milky Way chocolate bar sold within the United States.

They use to. I haven't seen a Mars Bars in years though. Whenever I went to Switzerland, I saw some and had to get them for my granny (she loves them). However, they turned out not to be the same thing :(

Mars bar in US is different than European Mars bar. Ours has almonds. Yours doesn't. Yours is closer to a Milkyway bar in US.

They have never had Mars in the USA as we know it. When Mars was marketed in the USA, it had nuts. It was renamed Snickers at the same time they changed our from Marathon. So tell him it's a Snickers bar without nuts.
