Quite frankly, I would say none of them. None really stand out as breathtaking or wonderful films. If I had to pic of the five to win, I think Letters from Iwo Jima is the best all around film. The Queen should not be on that list though. Not very good at all. And I think Little Miss Sunshine is the trendy pick because it's similarities to Crash (a small indie movie with a well known cast, released early in the year and was a huge critical and boxoffice hit) The Departed is up there cause almost all of Martin Scorsese's highly hyped movies get nominated. And Babel, well it wasnt all that great when compared to a film very similar in style, (by which I mean Children of Men) and Children of Men had a better plot then Babel. So of the five, Letters from Iwo Jima is my pick.

But truely, I think the best picture of the year was Pan's Labyrinth. I would have loved to see it land a best picture nom along with it's 6 other nominations. Just because it is up for Foreign Language Film doesnt mean it can be up for best picture too (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Life is Beautiful are examples of movies previously up for both) Pan's was both disturbing and touching, it had great visuals, a wonderful score and a story unlike any other. It's in a category all it's own when it comes to wonderful films. It's a shame it didnt get the nod for Best Picture too.....

Ok, I'm going to reveal some prudishness now--although I enjoyed "Little Miss Sunshine" I hope it doesn't win. The language/sexuality issues of the grandfather's character are so adult and potentially offensive to audience members that I find myself rooting for "Babel." "The Queen" was really good, but I think "Babel" covers more universal subject matter. I didn't see "The Departed" (too violent for me!) or "Letters from Iwo Jima"--it's just started playing here.

The Departed is my favorite in the Field but I'm not sure it can win with the Field it is in... but in my opinion it was the best out of those five which were all great films...

The Departed - such a goooood movie. It was intelligent, kind of a thinker type film, funny and had all the bells and whistles of a high action packed film - very entertaining.

The Departed - it's about time Martin Scorcese wins an Oscar. I think they will give it to him this time.
