I did see something on the news about a mail truck involved in a wreck.
It is probably more likely some idiot clerk or carrier misdelivered your mail and they are using the burned mail truck as the excuse.

I recall hearing something to that effect in Florida I think! Wait a while longer it may show up eventually. They don't call it snail mail for nothing!

I have not heard anything about that. If you know who the mail you were expecting is from, I would contact them and let them know what happened. Maybe they can resend what you need.
