Terrified... because that is what the US Government is asking (telling) of its people. The Patriot Act is a prime example... We will protect you, but to do so we must have the right to search a person's home - without warrant, tap their phone - without warrant, detain persons who speak out against the government, etc.

It depends. If you are ready to sacrifice your freedom and let the government take over your life through high taxes and social programs, then I agree. Once that happens you never get your freedoms back because you have become dependent on the gov. for you survival.. When it comes to war and suspending some rights for a while, I don't agree. Nobody becomes hooked on less rights.

it is a faux juxtaposition. all of us sacrifice some own freedoms to purchase some safe practices on a daily basis. We pay taxes, lessening our economic freedom, to pay for police secure practices. I save my pit-bull on a leash so my neighbor will be guard from being bitten. commerce-offs are area of lifestyles. The question is, even as a terrorist enemy is coming to kill you and spoil your society, what are you keen to do to provide your self with protection?

I agree with him.
This is not what he meant but would you go back to jail after you were set free.?
You could also put it in a religious context and those of you who are religious will know what I mean.

Sums it up quite rightly about government welfare, universal health care, social security, etc.
People have chosen to give up freedom for these false securities.

Makes me glad I don't have to sacrifice any freedoms. Neither do you. I highly doubt you've been affected by Bush-wiretapping. You're just not important enough, nor are you a terrorist. The average person has not lost any liberties. So, get real.

Ben never had to deal with concept that someone would kill people en masse so indiscriminately because someone else perceived them as "infidels".
