its a artifcial pine tree with lights. since its too heavy to carry it to the attic, can i just leave the tree (which is inside the thick cardboard box) in the garage.will the needles of the tree be alright or will it fall off?

I have kept mine in the garage for the same reason. It was fine this year. I had no problems with my tree or it's lights.

Tree should be fine, in fact the attic may be too hot for the material used on the tree and mess it up.

Why wouldn't it be alright? I don't quite understand why it would be ok to store in the attic but not the garage.

Yes, you can, and no they won't. I'd be a little concerned about 'critters' getting to it though.
