Avoid most of the City Centre pubs, they can get very nasty at times.
Decent place to look is the top end of Park Street. Lots going on there but very popular with "the great unwashed" (aka students). There can be some great fun but hang on to your valuables, theives pray in the crowds.

The Hatchet in Colston Street claims to be Bristol's oldest pub. They host the 'Spanks' fetish club monthly.

Don't waste your time and money on expensive 'fashionable' lagers or vodka mixers (if you do then most people won't be sympathetic when you end up broke). Try the local beer "Smiles". Not only is it good and a lot of women drink it, if you're in a pub that sells the stuff (e.g. The Highbury Vaults on St Michaels Hill) then you will also be safe from muggers and date rapists. They tend to avoid places where the young attractive drinkers are not idiots who leave themselves open to abuse.

If you like cinema and eating out there's "The Venue" at Cribbs Causeway (plenty of busses from around the Centre if you can't find the place by car).

Avoid Stokes Croft unless you're with someone who knows the area and whom you trust without any doubt (I really mean that). Ditto Lawrence Weston, St Pauls or Easton.

Depends, you can crawl down Whiteladies road and then onto Park St if you have time (long crawl!)

Ermn studenty places include: Panache, Ramshackle, Baja, Oceana, 'spoons (god forbid awful service), Carling Club, White Harte, Corination Tap (v busy - Clifton), Syndicate, etc

To be honest if you head to Park Street follow the crowds!

Depends where you are. I think Sheffield is a great night out but you have to know where you're going. Liverpool is cool too.
