1. Sometimes don't appear in listings for an hour or two.
2. If it's clothing, or similar item of which there are thousands on sale, your item will be on page 25 or something until the last few hours of the auction. Nobody looks past page 2.

It depends on many factors. Many people do wait till the end to bid - sometimes sellers lower their opening bids if there has been no activity. It also can depend on how "hot" an item is. If you listed the item in the middle of the week you will probably see more activity over the weekend. Most sellers try to have their listings end over a weekend so more people are home to bid on the item. I have listed multple items and not had any bids at all. Make sure you have it listed in the correct catagory - even listing the item in two if it is worth it. Check daily the counter to see if people are even looking at the item and then finally pay most attention to the number of watchers. The more watchers, usually, but not always means you will have bids in the end. Good luck. It can be very discouraging when nothing seems to be happening.

From my experience people wait until the last 2-3 days of the auction to place a bid. I never try to have an auction that lasts more than 3 days.

People will put the item on their watchlist, and just wait to bid in the last 10-20 minutes..

It could be bid on in the first few minutes, or it could be bid on in the last few minutes. You cannot ever know for sure when someone will bid on it.

99.9 percent of ebay bidding takes place in the last 10 minutes of the auction.
