don't the swordtails eat their own fry?

no fish would be able to survive on fry alone, and in my experience, bettas will eat fry for a while, then get "bored" of them and stop!

african clawed frogs will eat fry also, but only once they're large enough.

live feeder fish should be used as a treat only really.

I second the betta, as long as the swordtail fry are newborns.
For a cool non fish predator, get a african clawed frog. They are goofy looking and fun animals to have. Only one since its 10 gallons per frog.

Cruel! Almost ANY fish will eat them in no time. Let them grow up!

Just about any adult fish will eat other tropical fish fry - including guppies and gold fish.

If you want an aggressive fish that will eat the adult swordtail too, you want an Oscar or African Cichlid. You can get either of these at most pet shops that sell tropical fish.
