i ma making hommade beefjerky for my husband for valentines day, he dosent know about it. i bought tooth picks but i cannot find them anywhere. i cannot ask him to go to the store for me to get them becasue he will ask why, we have one car and he has it all day!
is there anything i can use instead of toothpicks to hold the slick of jerky on the rack??

I would say get some butcher's twine, but if you don't have toothpicks, you probably don't have butcher's twine. You could try bamboo skewers. Don't you have any friends nearby who could help you out with a quick trip to the store? Or, why not ask a neighbor if they have any tooth pics? It's a fairly common item I would think that someone would have them on hand. Do you have any chopsticks on hand? That might work. You could also call a Chinese place that delivers and ask for lots of extra chopsticks.

Do you have any shish kebob skewers? Could you ask your neighbors and tell them you'll replace their box? Is there a bar or restaurant near you that you can walk to and offer to buy a handful?

Just some random ideas.

Back in the old days they often used needle and thread. Un dyed thread would be best.

clothing pins, paper clips, strait pin works as well as toothpick... hun don't work yourself up it will be perfect for him no matter what so keep that smile and do your best... =))
