John F. Kennedy Gryphons. Part eagle, part lion from Greek mythology. Other high school in the town was the Chimera, another Greek mythological figure. How high-brow (but the schools weren't).

Fort Atkinson Black Hawks.
Fort Koshkonong was established in the early 1800's in south-eastern Wisconsin by General Henry Atkinson but was renamed for him. He was in pursuit of that pesky Sauk Indian chief, Black Hawk, who led him on a MERRY chase.
One of the school athletic uniform variation was black with red details. They were BAD and totally rocked.
