My daughter is comming up to 12 and moves upto High School in the Summer and I wanted to take her somewhere where they can show her how to apply make-up properly and take care of here skin properly. The proper way to apply and remove, cleanse, tone and moisturise etc. so she doesn't go out looking like 'co-co the clown' with too much on. Anyone suggest somewhere in the UK that does that sort of thing? I've tried Clarins but they said no :-(

Thank you to the people who suggested various stores and places to try and a big thumbs down to the people who tell me she's too young etc...etc...BUT you are never too young to start looking after your body and skin! I'm not after a trashy or tarty look, thats why I want to take her somewhere for PROFESSIONAL advise and not trying some cheap and nasty brands from "claires". Yes, I think the natural look is best, which is what I want her to go for, the 'beauty pagent' look! I guess some of you passing judgement have no girls of that age?

Try youngandpure.co.uk. Contact them and ask if they do a range of makeup for younger women.

I am really surprised at the number of people saying not to do it. In my opinion this is exactly how you should approach it. She isn't asking which corner to put her daughter to turn a trick. My mom helped me try makeup at age 12 and it actually worked to make me realize it is too much trouble for me and I didn't wear daily makeup again for another 10 years or so.
I don't have a great suggestion but I say do not go to sephora, it would teach her how to wear expensive makeup and often times their makeup artists do a very garish look that does not sound like what you want for your daughter.

I love clinique - They will do a makeover but just remember that they are looking to sell their products so they will want you to buy something.
Or if you have Mary Kay in the UK you could have a Mary Kay party for her and a couple of her friends at your house!
Also, I think it is great that you want to teach your daughter the right way to put on make up before she experiments on her own! I only wish more mothers would do this maybe we would not have so many make up nightmares walking around on the street.

EVERY YOUNG GIRL wants to wear make up.... it can look trashy if not properly applied. I started teaching my daughter when she was 12, teaching her how to use just a little mascara and blush, each 6 mos to a year we took it a step farther. Subtle is the key....
Look and see if MAC has a counter in your area, (I know they have stores in the UK), call and make an appointment. Explain her age, and what you want to accomplish in the teaching. I found most of their make up artists are really great. and their make-up is some of the best I have found. Don't let their website scare you, they do know how to do subtle.
Hope that helps..

mum should teach that sort of thing. You can get tips from mags, although at 12 i dont think many people or mags would cater for that age group. We were not even allowed to wear make up in my senior school, although we all did not to a heavy extent.
Sit down with her and try some make up on to see what suits your daughter.
Use a mild cleanser, toner and moisturiser with no perfume in it.

The book is called Bobbi Brown Teenage Beauty
It tells you how to apply make up, what kind of make up to use, all about skin care, how much make up to use and it is focused on for girls from ages 11 - to whatever age
it is an amazing book

She's 12, she is too young to be wearing makeup. Your teaching her to cover up her face, which will lead her to think there is something wrong with her.
Mascara and lip gloss is all she needs. I think teaching her about how to care for her skin is fine, but a 12 year old doesn't need to do all the stuff you listed. Cleansing and moisturizing is all a 12 year old girl should do for her skin, any more and her skin will just become irritated.

I am not in the UK, but we love Mary Kay! My oldest daughter uses their cleansers, moisturizers & lip gloss. She is not quite high school age yet, but we will get color products through them when she is ready as well.
They have independent beauty consultants(here and in the UK)...they will come to your home and teach her (and you). They have skin care products for teens & adults, and have access to lots of info about how to apply and correctly care for your skin. They will come teach you (with samples) for free, and then you choose which products you want to buy (all, or none if you don't like it!). There is a website, which is www.marykay.co.uk for the UK...you can find a consultant there! It is a good thing to take care of the skin starting at a young age!

shes only 12, I seriously dont think you should be worrying about this right now let her be a child for a while longer, all girls her age wear is a tiny amount of mascara and maybe a sparkle on the eyes,
12 year old skin does not need a serious beauty regime of cleanse and tone,
Im sorry but you sound like you are teaching your daughter that looking perfect is the most important thing in the world.

i like how you're interested in helping her take care of her face and body :) i was going to be like everyone else and say "she's too young" but now that i think of it, when i was 12 i was absolutely obsessed with makeup.. and i still am, at 20.
you could go to boots and buy some rimmel lipgloss [i buy it here, in the us, it's my favorite.] and not-too-bright eyeshadows... and have a mother-daughter makeover day or something.
good luck with your soon-to-be teenager!
