Skopje is the capital of FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia).

They consist of Slavic people, and have absolutely "NO" relationship to the Macedonian culture. Slavic people were not even around at the time.

Today, true Macedonia is a Provence located in Greece. This is where the cultural and historical references are connected to. Macedonia was an Ancient Greek Society, much like the Athenians, Spartans, Minoans, Dorians, Trojans, etc... that we all know of.

Simply put, take a look at the FYROM's (Skopje) language, and try to connect it to true historical artifacts from ancient Macedonia and you will find NO correlation. Besides, Alexander the Great expanded the "Greek World", not the Skopje (slavic) world. He as well as his father, King Phillip, consisted as part of the "Greek World".

Skopje and FYROM are simply a piece of what used to be the "Ancient Greek World" controlled by Alexander the Great. If one makes reference that Skopje was at one point Macedonia, well geographically speaking, they are correct, but somewhat. The center of Macedonia was what is today as always, the provence of Macedonia in Greece.

For some who still are not convinced, no reason to hear it from me or from a "wikipedia" (an encyclopedia edited and written by whoever wants to add whatever they deem fit) simply open a text book or any history book and you will NEVER see any reference to Slavic people, but you will see that Macedonia was part of the Greek world!

skopje is the capital of the Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia as many people have mentioned. People in the country, rightly or wrongly so, refer to themselves as Macedonians which pisses off Greeks. The Greek's have province named macedonia and feel as though they have the exclusive right to the name. There is also the debate of Alexander the Great and where he was from. Skopje is in the northern part of Macedonia and very near the serbian province of kosovo. skopje is an imposverished city as nearly all of the old yugoslav states are. paved two lane roads riddled with potholes are the norm. mud is the about the only resource the country posesses. people there are incredibly friendly though.

Skopje(Greek "Σκόπια") is the capital of the Slavic/Albanian-Macedonia (officially recognized by United Nations as Former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia!)
Don't confuse (as a specific user) that small Balkan state with authentic Macedonia which is in Greece!
That's why this question was probably asked in category Greece.
The confusion has started a few years ago when Slavic/Albanian-Macedonia started to use internationally the Greek name "Macedonia".
I do have to state here that officially the government of Slavic/Albanian-Macedonia is against the fanatic who post unhistorical claims and they have clearly stated that they have no connection with authentic Macedonia of Greece and Alexander the great!
(Just to remind what the first President of FYROM (Slavic/Albanian-Macedonia), Kiro Gligorov said: “We are Slavs who came to this area in the sixth century ... we are not descendants of the ancient Macedonians" (Foreign Information Service Daily Report, Eastern Europe, February 26, 1992, p. 35). Also, Mr Gligorov declared: "We are Macedonians but we are Slav Macedonians. That's who we are! We have no connection to Alexander the Greek and his Macedonia… Our ancestors came here in the 5th and 6th century" (Toronto Star, March 15, 1992).
By the way Mother Teresa is an Albanian-Macedonian from Skopje. Albanian-Macedonians are one third of the population of Slavic/Albanian-Macedonia.

You are so waiting to be harrassed here dude. Why would you ask such a question here?
Anyway Skopje is the capital of FYROM.
It is a poor country with NO true identity and goes out stealing other countries' culture, history and name.

Yes, like people said, it's the capital of F.Y.R.O.M., but some Greek people call F.Y.R.O.M. Skopje. Maybe that's why you asked this question under "Greece"?

It's the capital city of Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia, FYROM.
This is a temporary name.
If you say Macedonia you mean an area in Greece , an area with rich history . MACEDONIA IS GREEK. MACEDONS ARE only the GREEK PEOPLE who live in North Greece thousands of years, and NOT THE SLAVS. Please OPEN a history book !

MOREOVER YOU CAN SEE ALL THE ANCIENT ARTIFACTS AND MONUMENTS OF MACEDONIA. ON THEM IS THE GREEK LANGUAGE NOT THE SLAVIC. SAME RELIGION, SAME TRADITION, SAME LANGUAGE WITH THE OTHER PARTS OF GREECE ! SHOW ME AN ANCIENT ARTIFACT WITH SLAVIC LANGUAGE. YOU CANNOT !
