My most attractive: Portia - modest, decent, perceptive and jocular too. . . .Shakespeare - The Merchant of Venice

My most unattractive:Chichikov - Devious, slimy, and heartless in marketing souls of the dead. . . .Nikolai Gogol - Dead Souls.

*Realistic characters not Snow White and the Forty Thieves.

1. A very dangerous friend but... Lydia Gwilt from William Wilkie Collins's Armadale. Why: intelligent, complicated, muderous in a helpless way, loyal in her own strange manner, and again intelligent....
2. Grandcourt from George Eliot's Daniel Derronda. Why: self-righteous, boring, bored, patronizing, arrogant for no reason, dimwitted but thinks he's intelligent, brutal, abusive.....

They still have all those fairy tales put to real life:
They have a dating service for nothing but beautiful women and rich men.
Women want things, men want beauty.
From Beauty and the beast to Cinderalla being sweep off her feet by the rich charming prince.
In High school guys play football to get a women.
In real life they better have a good education and a good job.

1. Frankenstein. I always thought the guy had a bad break and I think I could deal with his occasional outbursts.

2. Holden Caulfield (Catcher in the Rye) ...people say they identify with him but I always thought he was annoyingly whiny.
