It completely depends on circumstance and where you live. E.g if you are homeless or living in unsanitary accomodation then you're more likely, and if you're in an area where there are plenty council flats or houses and not much competition you are also more likely. Where I live you haven't got a chance! They are nearly all bought and people are being told they have to move out of the area if they want one. Bloody disgraceful!

Apparently, the council won't normally offer you a placement until the baby's about 6 months old.
The mother's employment/housing situation is another factor in how long it'd take; if she's jobless with no where to live they'll act quicker than someone who's got a source of income and a place to stay.

too many people are bringing innocent children into the world for their own needs, why dont you get of ur lazy **** and get a job to support you ur girlfriend and the baby you are planing on creating, you will feel more proud of urself if you earn the right to ur own flat instead of just being handed it, And anyway a lot of council places have changed this system, they will put ur GF in a mother and baby unit and she could be in there for anything upto 5 years

I think you are missing the point - you don't get the flat, she does! So if you want the flat, you have to put up with her and a screaming baby. Might just be easier to rent privately.

If you do it without asking the woman permission first you will be given a flat almost immediately!! It might be a bit cramped with metal bars in the window and a big heavy lock on the door.

A child shouldnt be brought into the world so you can get what you want. They require great love, care, encouragement, money, food clothes, uni or college funding. Think responsibly about what your considering.....
