They were elected in November with a mandate to "Bring the troops home now!" So I want to know how bad it will reflect on them in the 2008 elections if they cannot accomplish this.

Even Kucinich is concerned about this:

Well Bush won't be running in 2008 so I don't think his approval ratings matter much.

People such as Lucas avoid the issue by trying to smear the other party. How immature.
How weak? Well, if they cannot accomplish it there will be an uproar about broken promises and ineffective leadership.

Wait I am confused, so let me get this straight the democrats have failed if they bring the troops home under the ideology that it will be a "cut and Run" mission. However if the Democrats fail to bring the troops home they are not living up to their obligations.

Where is the accountability for the people who actually got us into Iraq? If politics are based on a lets see how much of a mess we can leave for the next guy to clean up and mock him if he can't idea then i would seriously consider converting the nation to an anarchist political system, it would be more effective.

its hard full them to pull the troops out without at least some support from republicans in Congress. And besides that the only thing they can really do is cut the funding to the war and that will make the dems look worse than the republicans that sent the troops in the first place

??? Congress controls the handbag-strings. in case you had any familiarity with the structure you'd understand that that is the President who needs to deliver the troops domicile. for this reason, the domicile handed a bill telling him: both you're binging them domicile on (I ignore the precise date), or you need to deliver them domicile now, because you gained't get any more beneficial money to keep them there. In different words, they are engaged on bringing them domicile. No, they do no longer have that potential rapidly, they have the potential to authorize spending. they are utilising that potential to do what the yank people have suggested we want them to do. in the previous passing that diverse bill, they handed dissimilar different expenses doing issues maximum people needed them to do (minimun salary enhance, case in point -- that entire slew of issues they did in the first few days). anybody who had a clue about how the authorities works, and were paying the least interest to what they have been as a lot as would comprehend, for the first time in a lengthy time period, Congress is doing what almost all of voters want them to do, quite than doing the different. i do not assume this answer to do any solid, as for sure, you lack all suitable cluefullness.

Bush can't afford not to start withdrawing by this time next year. And they didn't run on the platform of "bring the troops home now" they ran on the platform of reconsidering strategy in Iraq.

they have never had a mandate to bring the troops home now. Our president has asked them to give his new plan a chance, and they will do that. Why, is that plan not going to work?

I agree. They aren't any better than the Republicans. They are all people seeking self-gratification at the expense of We The People.

But with the democrats in power in the Congress, at least nobody can get anything done and George Bush can't just break the laws and ignore the Constitution wil-lie nil-lie like he has up until this power shift.

I think that bringing the troops home at this point makes the USA look weak. This will only appease the enemy; it is what they want. We need to put political agendas aside and stand together as one.

Problem is the only way for the Dimocrats to bring the troops home is to defund the war. They know how WEAK and TRATIOROUS they will look if they do that. The only one who can order the troops home is the Bush Administration. The Democrats have zero input as to what he does.
