i knocked a hole in the bedroom wall a few years back to save a little bird, there did used to be a fireplace there

Save it obviously but if it is a two storey house and the bird is stuck half way down then it's tricky. May be shove an old pillowcase up with a sweeping brush and try push it out the top ?

A lot, I've pulled a bit of plasterboard off once to reach a nest that had fallen down behind the kitchen wall

no do NOT start a fire...(although i did laugh, sorry)

you have to do the right thing, and either get up there yourself, or call someone to come and get it...you have to really, my mum once spent a whole afternoon running around trying to catch a bird, and then realised it was a BAT. screamed and then tried to scare it back UP the chimmney

None, I just leave them to die, after a few hours they stop flapping so much and eventually all together. My husband onth on the other hand can't stand it and tries everything to free them!!
