You're at an excellent age to start planning for college. If you can attend music camps over the summer, be sure to talk to all the music teachers about which college programs they would recommend. Attend all the concerts of the college band programs as you can that are within driving distance from your home. Use your spring breaks during high school to make trips to colleges that are further away so that you can observe the programs in action by observing classes, seeing concerts and talking to the college students about why they selected that program. This way, by the time you're a junior in high school, you'll have selected two programs that are well-suited to you, one that is especially hard to get into, and one "safety" school. Meanwhile, you will have to make sure you are getting the best training possible on your instrument of choice.

To give you a start, I'd like to highly recommend Michigan State University for music education. I've also heard good things about Indiana University's music ed program.

I've definitely have some tips for you future upper-classmen. First, work on scholarships well before your senior year. The longer you put if off, the harder it will be to finish. Second, DO NOT SLACK OFF YOUR SENIOR YEAR! It is a very good idea to try really hard and take the classes that you know will be challenging. This will give you a good head start for college. Last, but not least, visit colleges and get a good idea of what you want to major in. College visits can be very fun and knowledgeable. Be smart when deciding where to go and make sure to get the most out of the college of your choice.

that is actual somewhat late to be easy. you will desire to have been thinking approximately this considering middle college...besides the indisputable fact that, you may get into the college of your determination and discover the suited classes. With maximum of faculties accessible, this is complicated to make this determination in one twelve months. initiate via conversing on your councilor in college and have an concept as to what style of software you're searching for for. settle on in case you prefer to stay close to homestead, some place interior driving distance yet no longer too close, or AWAY. Then initiate your seek. Make a itemizing of issues you prefer your college to have and issues which you prefer your college to have. be valuable to circulate to the faculties and notice what the FRESHMAN dorms appear like. many faculties will tutor their senior or junior dorms that are beutiful...ask to work out the Freshman dorms. remember, once you get the college suggestion you will additionally see issues approximately classification length. The smaller the class length the extra guy or woman interest you will get. besides the indisputable fact that, ask them how great the Freshman instructions are considering they're frequently plenty larger (sometimes 2 hundred scholars to a minimum of one professor and a pair of or 3 instructor Assistants who will grade your papers, no longer the professor). additionally ask them what the class length is for this methodology you're observing (they'd say classification sizes are around 12 - a million, yet your software would desire to be very decrease than-staffed and 20-a million). stable success~

Talk with your school guidance counselor. It's never too early to think about. In particular, when you get to high school, be involved in extracurricular activities that apply to what you want to do and try hard in school. And also take advantage of guidance counselors there as well. They are there to help you. More people should think like you, by thinking early.
