It happens all the time. It is actually illegal to advertise a job that doesn't exist, so if you're really pee'd off report them to the ombudsman.

Chances are the job did exist and probably will again, otherwise why would they want you to register... I got my first real job through an agency. For me the trick was to register with more than one.

If you are in a position where you currently aren`t employed and have time to apply to agencies, why not give them a try, just never give anyone cash (I can`t think of any besides modelling agencies that do this, but maybe some Internet based recruiting services might) and avoid agencies that are looking for exclusivity, you must be free to look for jobs through other agencies as well as on your own. Another benefit is that some agencies offer free computer training if that is something you are looking for.

Don`t give up on looking for jobs directly, there are certain advantages to both methods using them both should increase your odds of finding a job

I work for an employment agency and they probably didn't call you in there just to get you through the door, cause trust me, we have more applicants than we have jobs and only bring in people with good skills and a good work background. See when a job is open and waiting to be filled, the employment company needs to work quickly to fill the position, before another employment company fills it first. So someone else must have gotten there first and accepted by the hiring company before you were able to get in, registered and entered into the system. However, the good news is, you are signed up and ready for any company calling in for an employee, keep good communication with your consultant and make sure she knows you are eager and ready to work. Not all employment agencies are scams, well the ones that are free to you are definitely not a scam, however if they charged you to sign up, well that I would be concerned about. Hope this helped you some. Happy Valentine's day.

Don't tell me.I'm really fed up with dealing with recruitment staff which don't even know what they are talking about.
I went to many of those agencies and must say that very rarely I found somebody competent.

My friend applied for a job through an agency. She went in for her intro with the agency on Monday and waited for them to call back with her interview details, and when they called back she hadn't been invited to interview after all. Hadn't thought of it just being a ruse until you mentioned it, but it makes you wonder.

Well, sorry guys, I have to fight for my job!
I do recruitment and give commitment to the people I put forward to my clients...

You also have to understand that if you don't fit the requirements, you do not fit them!!!
(don't know why but always come across those people saying they can do EVERYTHING!)

There are laws and we have to stick to them, no fake ads, no numbers of yrs (age discrimination)...
Just rules being set that we have to respect and apply!

Not saying that all agencies are good, but don't do generalities saying we're all bad!!!!

You just need to find the right agent who will fight for your case!
Good luck!

Hi, been there and done that. If all possible, try not to deal with them at all. I hate most of them with a passion! They are only into their own benefit.. they dont give a darn about ya.

Save up some money and start investing it wisely and as soon as u can u should start ur own business. I dont believe in working for other peeps and plus u will end up working rest of ur life and have nothing to sure for in the end.

Cheers!

Yeah, they use all kinds of tricks to get you away from the popular job websites.

I got one that said
"We are sorry, but the position you applied for has recently been filled. blah blah blah. Basically Join our website"
Crooked Bastards!

I have tried using all those websites to no avail.
Most are redirects to other websites. I grow tired of that loop.
I am trying other routes.

Skip the middleman. Go straight to the company.
Maybe try networking. Find somebody already in that field. They might know somebody who knows somebody. That is how most jobs are filled.

Yes, I have and I do know that if you get the job and then get laid off even a year down the road the agency will no longer talk to you.

Especially Tec-Head in Richmond, Virginia.
