Itz not right to compare 1983 team & present team since the methods & techniques have changed a lot during these 27 years. Several new rules have developed in favour of making it as a business. The 30 yard circle rule has been introduced & now modified also to attract the people by more boundaries & sixers. Definitely this affected for the bowlers and we have seen even 434 was chased & won by SA. In 80s a score around 225 - 250 was the average was much and more for a team for victory. Now it has changed to 325-350 and even more. This deflected in the performance also. A bowler cannot definitely perform continuously as in 1980s but a batsman can score more runs in initial overs without much effort.

Eventhough a comparison between players is interesting.

1983 we had a competent, aggressive & dedicated captain, Kapildev. Now we have a captain without all these qualities.
If the leadership is main measure of these comparison it is 100:0

The Gavaskar & Srikkanth : I find Ganguly & Tendulkar are better than 1983 pairs by all means.
Then no.3 Mohinder Amarnath - nobody in this team can be upto Mohinder as a believable batsman & useful medium pacer.
Yaspal sharma - Dravid may compensate
Sandeep Patil - Yuvraj not enough
Kirthi Azad - Uthappa / Karthik Okay
Kapil Dev - Pathan un comparible in all
RogerBinny - Zaheer can compensate at a certain extent as a bowler, but remember he was the most no. of wicket taker in 1983 but Zaheer lacks as a batsman & fielder against Binny.i
Kirmani-Dhoni : Dhoni lacks keeping quality which is critical in ODI, but leads uncomparibly in batting
Madanlal-Sreesanth Sreesanth is better with the ball if properly utilised, batting lacks
Sandhu - Munaf can compensate with ball, but poor fielding

Instead of Pathan Agarkar / Harbajan can be considered.

But see, by overall comparison 1983 team aheads with 2 slots which cannot be compensated by the present team and that is going to be a critical factor here also. A suitable position no. 3 batsman & allrounder like kapildev .

And the important 3rd factor is also the leadership that Dravid can never come near Kapildev...

NO WAY! The 83 team actually had a passion for the game and the confidence to win it. But such qualities are severaly lacking in the current team. it was lacking even in the 2003 team.... i mean seriously, if in 1983, india could defend a miserly score of 183, then why was it impossible to even put up a close fight in chasing 360 at the Wanderers in '03???? (let alone the question why the bowlers have worsened in 20 years!!) There's no comparison, because they dont have the 'josh' to win a tournament. It is quite obvious because we currently have three of the world's best batsmen with over 35000 runs between them- tendulkar, ganguly and dravid- and sloggers like sehwag and we still havent been able to win the world cup. WHAT A SHAME??? They dont have the firepower to win tournaments.... they only shine out on a good day! (sadly...)

I saw that TV program where they kept asking Kapil Dev and Madan Lal for the comparison between the current and the 1983 world cup winner team and both were trying their best to avoid giving any specific answers to that ridiculous question.

I think it's not only unfair to compare the two teams but it's also impossible to do so because no two players are alike when it comes to a player as a whole package. Sachin is good and so was Gavaskar but how would you compare the two? Can you doing the same with Kapil and Irfan?

The TV people try to make their program interesting and a bit controversial on purpose to gain some grounds in the rating game but I try to forget their "expert opinions" the moment I move on to a next channel.

It is not at all correct to compare the world cup squad announced for the world cup 2007 with the squad of 1983.

Th report in the media is about the composition of the present team as compared to 1983 team, which had bit and pieces players who can bat and bowl a bit and bowl and bat a bit. The
comparison of 1983 team has been made in the media taking
into cosideration of the ability of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Yuvaraj Singh and Saurav Ganguly to bowl and also
Irfan Pathan who can bat.

You are comparing Nilgries Hills with Himalays. Current team cannot stand in front of the 83 team which had dedication, aggression, team importance, team play, speed etc.

Current team has only Groupism, Money, politics and indivijual gameers

of route 2011 WC win. because there's a distinction between a global cup win and dropping a global cup very last. it isn't in any respect elementary to handle the pressure of of a bathroom very last. that's an Herculean job. No important host crew managed to win the WC till 2011. it isn't in any respect elementary to conflict in the front of your homestead crowd pressure. 1300 million followers! So i visit price India's 2011 WC performance larger... both line united stateswere both better IMO. yet there's a distinction between being better and being a winner! only because you're str0ng you may not win a global cup. It takes a sturdy administration and the gamers following it by technique of delivering their proper performances for the crew even as it concerns.
