My 5 month old boy was only breastfed also (we just started baby cereal and purees). I noticed that a few weeks ago his poops started smelling atrocious! Our pediatrician said it was normal. Your diet affects his health, yes, but just in that you need to keep yourself healthy to provide for him. Kudos to you for breastfeeding!

LOL, this is a great question. Your baby will react differently , in many ways, to whatever you are eating yourself.
My guess is you are taking a vitamin, and or eating a diet high in acid and or strong seasoning like garlic, or cumin, perhaps you are drinking whole milk and not enough water?
I would speak with your pediatric nurse about the problem, I think your diet needs a bit of a tweak? This is a pretty common complaint and that will work itself out as you discover how the different foods you eat , affect your baby.
Good Luck!

It's possible he's teething--when my breastfed baby was teething, his poop smelled different.
As long as your baby isn't fussing or gassy, is gaining weight at a normal rate, and doesn't seem to be getting a lot of diaper rashes, he's probably just fine.
Good luck!!

Sorry hon but stool is supposed to have a smell. There's nothing wrong; if you see blood in his stool then that would be a concern to contact your doctor.
