Don't waste your time with third party software...I did the following and it worked perfectly:

Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/gene... Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.

Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer'

Then connect the iPod. after about 10 seconds, you will see your ipod come up in the 'my computer' section you have already opened. Double click your iPod.

The music files should transfer to your iTunes Automatically. by clicking the ipod as soon as it is connected, you beat the "Sync and Erase" option.

The songs will go into your itunes, but you will also have them copied in your iTUnes folder in "my music". You can move the songs around from this folder (Like an External Hard Drive for instance, this is a good back-up plan to save you music.)

If you are determined to use 3rd party software, copypod works well, but you can only do 100 songs at a time.

Good Luck!

I use a programme called sharepod for this. its easy to use. just sel;ect the songs you wish to transfer to the pc and click 'transfer to pc'.

Only possible problem with this programme is it must be on the ipod. so you need to enable disk use.

Its available to download from:

Hope this is helpful
