Is just rubbing the feet ?

YES!

It was interesting how it really did correspond with different areas in the body.

What impressed me most about it...my reflexologist at the time asked me about a few areas...are you having issues with "X" or with "X". I said no. And guess what health issues I am having now? Those...it was almost like a warning system.

I will always trust what I learn from a reflexology session....and the added bonus is that yeah, it feels like a full body massage but for a fraction of the price! :)

No, it is not just rubbing the feet.

I disagree with "Troy's" answer; I am assuming he has never had it done. I do agree with "Ann O". There are points on the hands and feet which are connected to various internal organs, and when manipulated properly, benefits those organs, and therefore the rest of the body.

I have been a massage therapist since 2000, and I practice reflexology, and my clients have told me of the benefits they feel from it. So, it does work. (otherwise, they wouldn't pay for it !)

Reflexology is the practice of applying pressure to specific points on the feet and hands to influence the health of corresponding parts of the body. Pressure sensors on the hands and feet connect with different parts of the body, and as reflexology techniques stimulate these sensors, waves of relaxation are sent throughout the body

It is a great therapy, I use it all the time for a foot problem I have. It does not cure it, but it makes a problem that needed a sirurgy become bearable, so I don't have to get under the knife!
It consists of rubbing the correct areas and making pressure points in the correct places. It is a oriental art that has been gaining great acceptance in the West, specially in England.

There are lots of people who go to have their feet treated by experts in the knowledge in this field. Different pressure points can relive symptoms else where in the body. The way we stand can affect our posture. Our feet hold up a lot of body!! Massage is just a small part of the procedure. Once Acupuncture and chiropractors where thought to be like voodoo, but now health experts believe prevention is better and these fields can be covered in health funds.

Pretty much. Just a regular foot massage to me. I went to a swanky spa & paid extra for a 20 min. "Foot Reflexology" session. I though perhaps some pressure points would be manipulated, for extra oompf, but that never happened.

I've heard of it, used it, benefited from it. It's a lot more then just rubbing the feet. This knowledge is centuries old. It applies to the hands and ear lobes as well.

Not just rubbing but applying specific pressure to pressure points depending upon the complaint. Similarly palms also have pressure points and can be similarly treated.

One easy way is to buy slippers with the acupressure soles (small rubber dimples raised which press into the soles) and walk around with them. Alternatively, you can walk on slightly rough ground and the pebbles etc. do the needed treatment.

Basically, there is some "voodoo" behind it, but it is basically just a foot massage.
