Actually I think that maybe the internet has given us more things to have conversations about, i.e. instant news.

I completely disagree. I think people still want to chat as much as ever, they just do it through a computer through Yahoo! Answers, dating sites, instant messaging through the computer, text messaging through a cell phone, etc.
Face to face may be suffering a setback, but communication is still there. There are advantages and disadvantages to the method you use and different situations call for different approaches.

Well depends where you work ... see i'm a front office receptionist .. no one around me hence no one to have a converstation with .. so internet saves my life .... but i think that if someone really did want to have a conversation with you internet wouldn't get in the way ... before they had nothing better to do .. now if they talk to you, it's because they want to.

i think it gives us more time to keep in touch with our 'real' friends and family. Instead of spending a spare 5 mins chatting to someone who you will never see or think about again if you changed jobs, you can keep in touch with distant friends and family without running up a huge phone bill. It also makes it simple to keep in touch with people who you wouldn't necessarily ring unless you had something specific to say, but would like to know you're thinking of them (in my world thats a whole load of people)If people want to waste their time looking at crap websites thats up to them, maybe they think that these websites are more interesting than the crap people they work with!!!!

Yes. Technology has reduced the occurences of live person-to-person communication which is helpful in developing social skills and relationships.

You're at work to work. I don't ever remember a down time where I could sit around and chat.
Must be a diferent world.
Internet access should be limited to nothing more than a company intranet. You shouldn't even be able to check your personal email.
