The Revolution happened at that time because before that, people had few reasons to despise the crown. They weren't being taxed or anything. Then, after the French and Indian war, Britain was in huge debt (due to the war) and needed cash. They taxed the American people without reprsentation which went back to the magna carta of 1215, which stated that they had to be represnted (like in some sort of congress) before being taxed. The king had ignord that, which started american anger. That was only one thing (that started american anger), but it was a huge contribution.=)

Many colonial leaders such as Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and John Adams were influenced by John Locke. In his essay on Govt., Locke wrote that people had a right to overthrow the government that's opressive. Now, not everybody read Locke, because not too many people went to college. That is why Benjamin Franklin invited Thomas Paine to write Common Sense. In conclusion, the enlightenment movement of the 18th century had a big influence on colonies.

In a word, resources. No significant supply of coal (carbon) and iron, no minerals and no means to generate any industry on a large scale. This is the same reason you won't find the industrial development in the South Pacific. You can't make goods if you don't have the resources. The best you can do is trade what you do have that may be of value for things you can't create.

For one, the French Revolution helped America realize that they could revolt against their government. They had never seen anyone rebel like the French did, and they didn't know how it would work before hand.
After the French had success, America decided to take a chance too.

Because the colonies did not see the actions of the British as oppressive to them to the point of revolution before this point. There were many actions that the colonists saw the British doing that led them take action. You can read about the causes here: http://www.multied.com/revolt/
