Figures show that 5.6% of all rape crimes end in convictions, the lowest in the whole of europe. about 80,000 people are victims of rape or attempted rape every year. and these are the reported ones, this figure could infact be double or triple. nearly 1 in 4 women have been a victim of sexual assult in their life time. Are we or the government doing enough to drop the figures on rape? or increase convictions?

its disgusting how high the figures are and how little the government is doing. a thief who stole a £70 coat can get more years in prison then a rapist. why isn't more being done? if i had my way, a rapist should have his hands removed, to signify to others what happens if you touch a women without consent. i know of 3 women who have been victims of rape, and its very sad to know that it can actually happen to anyone, and nothing can be done.

I don't think that the judicial system is really to blame for the lack of conviction, the fact is that most women don't report rape.

I was raped, and I didn't go to the police. Maybe that was wrong - maybe I'm to blame for other women getting attacked, but the fact is, I felt like I was the one at fault. I felt like I asked for it.

Had I been aware of a service available where I could talk to someone about my options - with no pressure - then I would have got in touch with them.

We need more rape crisis centres that are there for women immediately after an attack. These centres can take samples and collect evidence, but do not pressure women in to getting the police involved. It leaves the descision with them, which is the right thing to do - these women have already lost so much, to take their power over this descision away is very wrong.

We do need to increase the sentance length for those found guilty of rape, but we also need to increase the length of sentance for those women who falsely accuse men of rape - we can't have it both ways.

yeah i agree with you, its so sad that they cant change the law to help increase conviction rates, firstly they need to let more cases get to court (which they don't probably due to money)
and once in court they need to make sure the jury are properly educated on rape and rape myths so they can make a clearer judgement on the case and people in question.
the jury are almost always too concerned they will be sending an innocent man to jail, when more often then not the person claiming they have been raped ARE telling the truth, so the jury should always take in to consideration how it effects the victims life having their attacker free, and they are free to do it again and again and ruin even more lives, and this is serious, also some rapists move on to commit more violent attacks and even murder.
its about time the victim was treated the victim and the accused be treated as the accused, rather than the other way around.

a rapist should NEVER be released from jail until they have been properly rehabilitated, if even possible.

I 100% agree with you!! Im so sick of all of these PERVERTS who cant control themselves get out with a slap on the wrist. They are talking about a law that will give a SECOND time sexual offender life in prison, WHY DO WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR A SECOND TIME!!???!!! I think if you do it once and there is proven facts that you commited this HORRIBLE VIOLENT CRIME you should not be given a second chance. And as far as cutting off their hands, I think they should NEUTER these SICK MONSTERS and throw away the key FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think it's taken seriously enough as a crime and i definitely don't think the punishments are harsh enough or sentences long enough. ... it disgusts me and i've never been raped but many of my friends have been and i think if i ever was I couldn't expect to be looked after or even necessaraily get justice for the crime that was committed.i get so angry....

Unequivocally NO! but then there is not much that can be done as long as we allow all the bleeding hearts that want these criminals rehabilitated, where by many of them never will, as far as I am concerned I support putting them down it's that dam simple to me.
