true anime is moving cartoon images its also the artistic style
manga however is a company that works in anime like disney works in animation
they do both comic books as well as feature leangth anime cartoons (Ghost in the shell, Akira) etc

manga is the written (or rather drawn version). Anime is the animated form, (TV or film).
There are many series which are both of course, and a lot of people use the two terms interchangeably which is what causes the confusion. Plus as someone above mentioned there is a company called Manga which produce anime films, just to further confuse the issue.

anime is tv shows or actual animations. manga is comic books and peoples own drawings and regular drawings...there is also a difference in the eyes...anime eyes are more detailed...and USUALLY manga is black and white and anime is in color. dont worry though its a tough question is only realized this recently, so dont feel bad about not knowing. i also think there is differences in how they do the shadows and backrounds...also manga shows more detail in the violence and body types are different...there can also be animations in manga like naruto, notice not as much detail in the eyes but they give very detailed wounds and such.

anime is the one that can move or animated if manga is a Japan comic that can't move. Usually for me anime's story is better than the manga.

manga is the japanese word for cartoon, so it is in still format, usually in biweekly magazine format or a tankobon (a comic book)
