Don't be depressed! :-)
The one piece of advice that I can give you is to avoid wearing clothes that are too small for you. Buy things that fit and flatter. Just because everyone else is wearing low rise jeans or super tight baby-tees doesn't mean it looks good on everyone! (non-sized-18 people, too!)
Also, how tall are you? Can you / do you wear heels? Height helps to elongate the body more, so if you are able, try wearing some shoes with a heel.
Also, do you wear jeans/pants with a slight flare or boot cut at the bottom? That seems to help, too. The "skinny jean" fad just doesn't seem to be as flattering on anyone other than emaciated celebrities (and even then it's questionable!)
I don't know where you live, but I would definitely recommend checking out Macy's and Mervyn's. They are both fairly reasonably priced stores that, depending on location, have excellent selections of size 18 clothing. Also, online check out www.alight.com They have AWESOME, styles and selections of clothing over size 14. Plus, there's always Lane Bryant, but that tends to be a bit more costly.
I know we're supposed to feel good about our bodies no matter what, and that clothes shouldn't make this big of a difference, but I hear where you're coming from and all I can say is that there is nothing wrong with owning some fun, flattering clothes that make YOU feel GOOD!
Good luck!

Size 18 isn't really big. It's on the lower end of the plus-size spectrum. It might be hard to shop when salesgirls are telling you that everything looks good on you--just so they can make more money.
Fitted blazers looking flattering on everything. It will create curves on you and slim you out. Also try to find longer shirts. Even if a shirt's length covers your midriff, a longer shirt will slim you even more. In fact, I like you wear a long shirt with a fitted blazer. Also try a fitted hoodie.
Depending on your body type, you might need to try different styles of jeans. Low-rise could look better on you than mid-rise or vice versa.
Try to stay away from big t-shirts. They just make you look bigger and sloppy.
It all takes time, but be your best judge.

Hey there little girl. First of all, change your attitude. You are a beautiful woman with a mind, personality, that cares about people, has alot to offer the right fella. Life is good and getting better. You have the rest of your life to live why spoil it? I don't know anyone who is perfect but if you feel that you want to change then change some little something and see what effect it has on your overall health. Decide what message you want to send the world by the way you dress. All business, comfort, neat, all lace, furls and firs and feathers. Pick your first impression. And go for it. You have nothing to apologize for except to yourself for thinking those depressing thoughts. Smile and keep them all wondering what you are thinking about!!! Good luck.
