If you're self conscious, you're not going to be an actress.
Acting requires you to be bold, outgoing, cheerful, you have to be able to MAKE the casting directors love you when you audition. A shy person who isn't sure of herself isn't a lovable character.
You're going to have to go to a drama school or a performing arts college. Just because you don't want to, doesn't mean your not going to have to. Do you really want to be an actress? Because it sure doesn't seem like it. You're more likely to be chosen for a part if you have had proper teaching and experience.
You can't just go to an audition and hope you make it, I'm afraid. You're going to need to go to a proper school, get a good agent, practice a lot, study, build up your portfolio, and THEN you can hope.
This business isn't easy, it's hard. You will be rejected a lot, scammed, you'll really have to work hard.
And you have to really want it, more than anything else.

Sounds like you want to be a star and not an actress. If you want to act, you have to go to school and study your craft and it is a craft, something to be studied and respected. Being a star is a different thing, about making connections and getting seen and known by the right people. They are teo totally different things.
Now, if you are self conscious and not formally educated or trained in the craft, it will be a million times harder to become an actress. You will have to work for years to get a walk on part and years more to get a speaking part. Its one of those things that if you do go to school and get trained you will probably have a better chance of getting to where you want to be in a shorter amount of time. and yoou also need major confidence. It goes a LONG way in the acting business. Good Luck.

Believe it or not:
1: You may fail as an actress - spend a lot of time
waiting on tables for your ship to come, and it never
does. Most people who start out to become actors
are unable to pay their bills without other more
traditional income. Almost any school will give
you other skills which you may find generate more
income for less work - perhaps even giving you
enough time to learn your lines.
2: They actually have acting schools (Juliard comes to
mind). There are actually things to learn in these schools.
3: Being self conscious is an audition killer - this is
one reason to go to a school. And of course, the way
to get around it is to practice - take a speech class at
your current school.
It is very very unlikely that it will just fall into place.

Talent Agents look at the drama school actors attend. If you are serious about acting, go to college and major in Theatre. Some agents prefer actors that have a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Theatre.

I know how much you love your art, but please don't destroy yourself for it.
A person of your obvious possibilities has others as well.
You are smart, sweet and congenial. Let this stuff work for you.
Take the leading role in all your remaining school plays. You deserve this. But don't think of it as a career.
I don't wish to be cruel, but perhaps someone has to be that. You have virtually no chance at attaining stardom in either the theatre or the movies, no matter how good you are, and I don't doubt that you are good.
Keep on playing throughout college, just because you enjoy it. Perhaps you will find something you like almost as much.

If your truly meant to be an actor you have to act like your not self concious, even though you are. If you can pull that one off you've got a chance.
