why are there so many bad spade players is this game that hard to learn?

There are a lot of good players but there are a few reasons that some seem to play bad such as the way the cards are dealt. One of the biggest is the way ppl treat other ppl. if they are abusive no one tends to play well and some can't wait for the game to be over!!
Finally some are just "new" and it takes them awhile to develop a strategy etc. Some are old and never can accomplish developing a strategy.
But I do know that you are a good player and partner!!
