It's for your protection when you have sex. It's sort of like a condom for your balls. Condom only protects your penis. Your underwear can be used to protect your balls from touching the STD infected vagina. Most STDs are transmitted by skin to skin contact. So when you have one night stand next time, make sure you wear your condom and your underwear and just pull out your penis through the hole. Now you are completely protected from getting any STD. At least your bottom half.

Some people pull it to the side... some people use the hole... some people pull it down. I go to the side. Well, I use briefs, not boxer shorts, so that may be a factor. To every man his own, I guess.

It is so that a single size of underwear can accommodate a variety of equipment sizes (applies to briefs and boxer briefs). The overlapped material allows for expansion, whereas a solid-front pair would be constricting for the larger gentleman.

you as a man should know better but i will explain it anyways; you use the opening instead of pulling down your underwear in front of a urinal anytime you want to pee.it actually protects your investment too.so you get to do your thing fully clothed in front of the urinal without being offensive and also cos your stuff isnt like that of the opposite sex

i can see you are a man, and if so, you already know that, the hole is to take your 'thing' out, pee, and put it in.
don't forget to dry it too!

Maybe you can't use the hole to urinate from because your pee pee is too small to pass your tighty whiteys.
