I assume you are asking "What legacies did the Roman empire leave Europe during the middle ages?"

The romantic languages (Italian, Spanish, German, French, English) were a product of the roman empire, the various languages shared a common grammar (Latin) and this benefited communication during that period and since.

Roman power was centralized in Rome and Constantinople, this division was continued and Rome became the center of influence for western Europe. Although the power became less political and more of a religious nature. The former provinces and governors of Rome became independent nations and governor's became kings.

Religion, the western europe shared the Christian religion of rome, were as the eastern parts shared the orthodox religion of constantinople.

Trade routes, roads, engineering.
