Good question Jessie. Most people around the world love American people, our entertainment, and our way of life. They dislike, VERY much, our government, because they are many times victims of our government throwing their weight around, especially in third world countries. Most countires are also well informed that it would take the resources of 4 earths for the rest of the world to live as we do, so they also think that we are apathetic to the rest of the world, which we are when you think about how much the typical American actually does to help alleviate world hunger by the giving of their time and/or money.

I, in general like people from the US. I really dislike it when people call themselves Americans, meaning they come form the US. I guess it is common to forget that America is the whole continent, and therefore Argentineans, Chileans, Guatemalans, Colombians, etc, are Americans as well. As for the government, no comments.

I think the problem with Americans on the whole is in the attempt to build such a strong and united nation. General knowledge of other nations have been understudied. The average American is very ignorant about anything outside his shores (excluding the wars which they singlehandedly chose to fight). Such ignorance rubs of as arrogance.
Theres nothing wrong in feeling great and wonderful about yourselves and your country. Everyone should feel that way. Problem only exists when you think your the only one who feels great about their country and cant seem to notice the flaws it has.

I am Australian. We see Americans (from the US) as loud, arrogant, believe that the rest of the world revolves around the US, and that the US sees itself as the savior of all the poor little folk who don't have democracy. That said, there are some lovely people who get tarred with the same brush, which is not really fair.

Through the years I've found that I am more quickly accepted if I tell folks I'm from Texas--I've even got a Texas Passport that has been happily stamped by immigration officials. . . after they stamp my U.S. passport. As an individual American I've never been picked on, but I've run into folks that want me to explain what the dickens our government is up to on one issue or another. For the most part my answer is, "I dunno, they've got me stumped, too."

As a fellow American, you must realize that we are the only super power in the world and will always be hated by some. The people that hate us want what we have.

They think we're spoiled, bullies, and superficial. Hmmm that sounds like an accurate description though sadly.
